Well its a bit depressing that the year of the Pig is ending, but nontheless, have a Happy New Year of the Rat, China, and anyone else who celebrates this.

Certainly been the Winter Of The Rat so far... our allotments have never seen so many ! Does trying to exterminate them put me in line for some bad karma or anything ?

Am hoping to get over to Newcastle upon Tyne on Sunday - they have their own Chinatown and a big New Year street festival.

yup the London BM is also having a lot of chinese celebrations at the weekend. I was lucky enough to be wandering around China town last weekend and certainly the festivities were well under way then. I have certainly heard the Newcastle China town celebrates New Year in comprable style, so enjoy it if you can Wearwolf.

As for the dumplings, they were pretty good. My wife certainly had no complaints at all, but for me I still prefer the prawn varieties but there you go.

In either event the Year of the Rat dawns and I too hope it might prove to be a prosperous year for all.

addendum: off to eat left over dumplings from yesterday.

In fact, Newcastle and Gateshead are hosting East 08 - "a World-class celebration of contemporary Asian culture in the North East", seems to be partly to tie in with Chinese Olympics.

Wow some of that looks fantastic, great call Wearwolf. Now if only some of those events tour. I think the NE had the best of the Chinese film tour that hit the UK a few months back as well. Didnt Maggie Cheung go to the region of Newcastle?
